![]() There is a program called "gpx2img" (.img is Garmin vector map format) that will convert your gpx tracks to Garmin map format that can then be loaded onto a Garmin GPSr. Garmin has some excellent free PC Software for manipulating (cleaning up, coloring, etc) your tracks. You can get your tracks off of them BUT you cannot put tracks on them and view them. Nuvi's will track and you can load the free Transparent Maps onto them. The Montana, Oregon, and 62s are probably the 3 best. I would recommend a Garmin for the simple fact that are a lot of free maps available for them and you can make Transparent Maps for them. All of the major GPSr manufacturers convert. A "Track" is a trail/path that you road and tracked with your GPSr. A lot of people will call a collection of tracks a map, purist will disagree. Now Garmin has what they call a "Custom Map" that you can make form GE, scanned paper maps, etc. The reason people made "Maps" was because most GPS'rs would only display a few tracks at a time. Traditionally a "Map" was a vector image of many tracks. This used to be more clear cut but not anymore. I use a Montana on my 850T and a 8" Android Tablet in my RZR. I have some links at the bottom that will be helpful. You mentioned wanting to distribute your map/tracks to friends, this limits your options somewhat. Currently I think you have two options, traditional GPS'r or phone/tablet App.
